general issues:
Every week there will be a reading assignment and a design or analysis exercise. In general, we will review review student work on Mondays and discuss readings on Wednesdays. Before every review you will be required to upload your completed work to your website. Before every meeting in which we discuss readings you will be required to post, to your website, a short (500 words) written opinion about the readings. In sum, there will be eighteen different assignments. About half of these assignments entail writing an opinion about the readings. The other half of the assignments concern design or analysis exercises. In addition, during one class meeting you will be required to lead class discussion on one or more of the readings. You will be asked to sign up for the date of this meeting at the beginning of the term.
policy:
Attendance is manditory. Three or more absences will result in a grade of no pass.
All assignments must be completed on time. Late submission of completed assignments will receive no credit. We will discuss student work on the assignments at each class meeting. To be fair to those who have submitted their work on time, it will not be possible to give credit for work that is late.
grading:
- written opinions about the readings: 21% (there will be 7 such assignments, each worth 3% of your final grade)
- design & analysis exercises: 50% (there will be 11 such assignments each worth about 5% of your final grade)
- discussion facilitation: 5% (during one meeting of the class you will be asked to lead discussion of one or more of the readings)
- class participation: 24% (to receive full credit for class participation you will need to contribute at least one comment, question, or observation to the discussion every class meeting)
